Roy of the Rovers is one of Egmont's best-loved and most enduring comic-book characters. Since his debut in 1954 in Tiger, his fancy footwork and off-pitch dramas have raised pulses all over the world. Roy's popularity earned him his own comic in 1976, which ran for a whopping 17 years throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s. Life was never dull in Melchester, and off-field antics often overshadowed events on the pitch - such as the 'who shot Roy?' mystery of the early 1980s.
